Strategic managemt internation expansion strategy Essay
Strategic managemt internation expansion strategy - Essay Example Dell Computer is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, in the United States. The company manufactures computer components and provides service and support to individuals, businesses, educational and government organizations around the world. Dell computer has been in business for a relatively short period of time (since May of 1984) but has realized a global presence that accounts for 44% of its total revenue for the first (fiscal) quarter of 2007. (Dell, 2006) Dell's global presence includes operations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The computer company has used its unique business model (direct model) to enter and compete in the global marketplace. Success for this company has been hard earned as Dell has had to adjust its model to accommodate market conditions in global markets it has entered. What has made Dell so successful is its focus on its direct model of customer service. According to Dell, Inc. "Dell listens to customers and delivers innovative technology and services th ey trust and value. Uniquely enabled by its direct business model, Dell sells more systems globally than any computer company, placing it No. 25 on the Fortune 500. Company revenue for the past four quarters was $56.7 billion." (Dell Inc, 2006) Dell computer anticipates making changes to its business model in response to market indicators in foreign markets that may indicate that Dells' international strategies may not be working as well as anticipated. Each market, and Dell's performance in that market, will be critically analyzed. Dell plans to focus on three areas of concern to beef up its approach to market conditions. These three areas are: customer service, product leadership, and productivity and cost improvements. Dell's focus will be on "providing the broadest and highest quality product line in history" (Dell, 2007) 2. Core Competencies Dell's core competencies consist of a business model unique in the information technology industry. They use a customer direct model with a twelve day inventory on hand vs. the industry standard of 30 to 45 days of stock on hand. Dell puts great emphasis on lessons learned so as to not repeat mistakes made in the past. Dell claims its focus on its direct model and its virtually integrated organization as keys to its local and global successes. Dell has brought "customers and suppliers inside the business though the capabilities of evolving internet technology. The fundamental results were speed, efficiency, direct customer service, responsiveness to customer wishes, and a soaring stock price" (Finney, 2002). Michael Dell's core philosophies have become Dell's core philosophies. Some of these philosophies include (Finney, 2002): - Hiring Ahead of the Curve - Segmenting the CEO - Building a Company of Owners - Staying Allergic to Hierarchy - Mobilizing People Around a Singe Business Goal - Developing Products from the Customer's Viewpoint - Targeting a Customer of One - Adding Value "Beyond the Box" - Aligning Complementary Strengths for Success - Flipping the Demand/Supply Equation - Playing Judo with the Competition Dell's core compe

Dell Computers Inc - Essay Example onal costs of intermediaries between the company and consumer and thus reducing the overall cost of the PCs making it cheaper than other PCs in the market. The other advantage was that it reduces the costs and risks associated with carrying large stocks of parts, components and finished goods (Thompson and Gamble, 2006). The company later became a public limited company and raised $34.2 million in its first offering of common stock and achieved sales of $388 million in 1990. During 1986 to 1993, Dell refined strategy, build an adequate infrastructure and established market credibility against better known rivals like IBM and Hewlett Packard. Dells computer strategy clicked into full gear in the late 1990s and the sell direct strategy provided the company with most efficient procurement, manufacturing and distribution capabilities in the global PC industry and gave a substantial profit margin advantage over rival PC vendors. It is further stated that Dellââ¬â¢s operating cost ran a bout 10 percent of revenues in 2002 as compared to 21 percent of revenues at Hewlett Packard, 25 percent at Gateway, and 46 percent at Cisco Systems (Thompson and Gamble, 2008). Dell Inc was the undisputed leader in the United States for sales in personal computer dominating the market. In 1998, the market share of Dell was 13.2% as compared to Hewlett Packardââ¬â¢s 7.8%. However it should be noted that Compaq was ahead of Dell during 1998 with 16.7%. This was the only period when any other vendors were ahead of Dell as the company occupied top position in 2000 with 19.7% as compared to Compaqââ¬â¢s 15.9% and HPââ¬â¢s 11.5%. The table below shows that Dell Inc has been ranked first since 2003 showing its dominance in the market for personal computer since 2000 in comparison to other companies. But, according to table 2, Hewlett Packard dominates the world market with 18.8% in the year 2007 as compared to 14.9% of Dell Inc. Though Dell Inc was dominated the market in United States and all over the world throughout 2000s, Dell Incââ¬â¢s market share fell down from 16.6% in 2006 to 14.9% in 2007 whereas Hewlett Packardââ¬â¢s market share increased from 16.5% in 2006 to 18.8% in 2007 thus becoming the market leader in the industry. Creation Myth Project - Essay Example The matter and energy did not exist as separate entities, but rather there existed a vastness filled by senseless, meaningless, formless, nebulous space that pervaded every inch of a universe that was without any dimensions, forms or meanings. The universe was thirsty for a sense of form, dimensions and meaning. Then at the very center of this formless, dimensionless and shapeless world, there emerged a scintillating, shimmering, and incessantly vibrating substance element. In a world that was hitherto substance less, it was the first thing that could be called to be a substance, if it was a substance. This substance atom, this substance particle achieved enhanced sense of shimmering, vibration and scintillation, indicative of some infinite energy that was poised to both pervade and envelope the disturbing zero all around. The vibration soon increased to enhanced levels of humming and void, and the nooks and corners of this pervasive null were filled with an incessant and disturbing, humming. Fear gripped the hearts and minds of the entire creation that was yet to be. A sense of urgency, a sense of apprehension, and fear imbued the entire, pervasive nothingness. And then this substance element lost form and started to emit vast rays of energy, just a millisecond before it burst into flames and water. The flames scattered all around the surrounding vacuum and emptiness, finally cooled by its chillness and silence, to yield land masses or what the generations were to call planets. The water emanating from this bursting of the substance particle filled the cracks and crevices of these land masses. There emerged to be oceans, rivers and lakes full of water. The atomic content emanating from this elemental burst gave way to a chemical soup, which eventually shaped by the heat of this burst evolved to form organic molecules. The incessant cycle of life had been initiated in which the molecular organic creations further evolved

Financal Management - Essay Example A project should be accepted if the NPV is positive, otherwise it should be rejected. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) - It is the sum total of cash inflows after discounting, which is equal to the discounted rate of cash out flows. The IRR technique is crucial for taking the capital investment decision. A particular project should accept IRR, only if it is greater than Cut-off rate, otherwise such project should be rejected. In case of Wandering Lights Limited, it is better to adopt NPV method rather than IRR method, because while assessing the financial viability, technical feasibility, and taking the appropriate capital budgeting decision of Wandering Lights Limited, it is suitable to undertake NPV as the capital budgeting decision. Wandering Lights Ltd has decided to launch a new product in the market. The product is garden lights. For the production of the new product the company has to introduce new plant and machinery in the business. The estimated cost of the plant and machinery is â⠤3375000. Leadership in Organisations - Essay Example Good leaders are in a position to establish suitable decisions that direct the attainment of their objectives. This is because of the existing effectual communication skills, self-confidence, and the capability of managing others (Badaracco, 2006, p. 47-55). The author continues to argue that a society cannot be alienated from good leadership (Badaracco, 2006, p. 47-55). Leadership has been linked to the shape and outcome of a society since what the leaders do is replicated to what the members of the society will do as well. 2.0. Monologues in V Act 4, Scene 1, lines 227-281 2.1. Summary of monologue From the monologue, it is evident that Henry the king is willing to send his soldiers to the battlefield. With his ability to disguise himself as a commoner, it is difficult for the common people to see and recognize him. This he does by borrowing a dirty old cloak that he uses to move around (Shakespeare 2007, p.108). He is also seen to claim to be a kinsman of Fluellen though he despis es him as a captain. His leadership qualities allow him to consult the common soldiers about the war (Shakespeare 2007, p.108). Despite the fact that the soldiers were doubtful about the kingââ¬â¢s ability to lead them to war, King Henry is quick to motivate his soldiers to go to the battlefield under his leadership. Some of the soldiers like Williams also questioned the justification of the war with France. Despite Henryââ¬â¢s leadership skills in being in constant communication with the soldiers, Williams, just like any ordinary person would, questions the king persistently and argues that if they die and leave their windows, it would be unforgivable for the king (Shakespeare 2007, p.109). However, the king responds by saying that he would be responsible for any death of his soldiers as it was their responsibility to guard the nation. Since a leader is bound to face all manners of rejection, Henry is not worried but defends himself from Williams. It is after the bitter excha nges between the king and the Williams that the soldiers leave for the battlefield (Shakespeare 2007; p.110). 2.2. Analysis of monologue Looking at Henry V act Act 4, Scene 1, lines 227-281, Henryââ¬â¢s hidden dialogues with his warriors reveals the close relationship between the king and ordinary man who are the soldiers. In this scene, the author presents different types of voices that talk in Henry V exposing how every soldier interacted with Henry, therefore, adding a contemporary dimension to the comprehension of the difficult emperor. Henryââ¬â¢s discussions with his soldiers feature the team spirit between leader and his subordinate, and this promotes a common understanding between the two groups (Shakespeare 2007, p.110). Henry knew that he was the same as the other common people. The only difference was that he was a leader, and he interacted with them in a free manner without threatening them. In the monologue, Henry described the unpleasant tasks of power, which bot h separate and exposed the king, where all the subjects give the impression of putting all their uncertainties, worries, and responsibility to the kingââ¬â¢s shoulders.
Introduction to Communication-Artifacts Assignment
Introduction to Communication-Artifacts - Assignment Example But when I saw his bracelet, I understood that he is probably a good and religious person. As this wristband is mentioned to remind the people how they should act in any situation, I was sure that whatever happens, my friend will never do something bad on purpose and will be eager to help me. Thus, this artifact helped me to perceive my friend as a good person, before we really made friends, and I found out that he is really a good man. 2. Both, in my home and my working place I have several pictures of my girlfriend. The framework with a photo of my girlfriend stands at a visible place, and everyone who enters the cabinet, can see this picture. This display definitely says to other people that I am in love with my girlfriend, most probably I am engaged (or plan to do so or am already married), and that my relationship with her is the one that I cherish and take care of (otherwise I would put the picture in a place, which is not visible to other people, especially women). I like to look at the picture when I have time, and dream about our future, so this artifact definitely conveys the image that I would choose to present to other people. The pictures at home identify me as the same loving and caring person to my guests. Besides those, who see me at home and at work, understand that I am truly in love, if I display the picture of my girlfriend

Management - Essay Example The effect of planning in facilitating management decisions cannot be overremphasises. It is an art of deciding in advance what to do, how to do it and who is to do it. It is normally a mental work which is intellectual in nature. It involves determining the goals, policies procedure and other plans needed to achieve organisational objectives. In planning, it is important that policies procedures, standards and methods of accomplishing goals are established. Also important is the ability to anticipate problems and money plans. Organizing on its own part is the grouping of work and workers by job and department, allocation of space equipment and resources in organizing it is important to break down work into operative units, select and place individuals on proper jobs with adequate provision of personnel, facilities and resources. Leading has to do with providing direction for subordinates and being responsible for the actions taken by them. Staffing involves filling vacant position in the organizational structure. It helps in defining manpower requirement and recruiting qualified personnel it also involves the selection and training of employees, prompting and appraising staff performance. Most, if not all, of these skills was what I was consciously trained to imbibe in the course of taking AC346. Studying was a very vital aspect of this course, read volumes of recommended and Non-Recommended Texts in order to grasp the substance of the course. I had to analyse and assimilate views as posited by different authors and I also do very much consider this as synonymous with the planning aspect involved in management. Furthermore written essay were on integral part of this course. In connecting our tutor we understood the concepts presented within the course it was important for me to be able to reproduce what had been assimilated and even present my own ideas in written essays, also an essential sale needed in management work after graduation. Co-operation was also vital in this course, as we had to work together as presentation groups. This helped in developing team spirit among team members. Individual contributions were encouraged and adopted in order to ensure success for the group. This tallies very well with organizational skills relevant in management after graduation with features such as grouping of work and workers by job and department allocation of space and equipment etc. All of these work functions are very important because it would be difficult to achieve organizational objectives without proper planning, organizing controlling and leading. Organisations are pre-occupied with myriads of problems without proper organizing and controlling; it would be a Herculean task to solve the problems. Management functions make provisions for purposeful direction and orderliness in executing polices. These management functions provide solid basis for controlling organizational activities. One major skill acquired as we laboured on this course was the principle of management by objectives - I personally look forward to a management position in a blue chip company where this skill is highly required management by obj
